Ind. 49 will be
closed to traffic at the bridge over the Kankakee River--at the
Porter/Jasper county line--beginning on Tuesday, April 8.
It will remain
closed--between C.R. 1600N and C.R. 1200S, just south of Kouts--through at
least early October, the Indiana Department of Transportation said.
Crews will be
replacing most components of the bridge, while preserving the historic
nature of this original truss structure, built in 1941.
Southbound Ind. 49
traffic will be detoured east on Ind. 8, south on U.S. Highway 421, west on
Ind. 10, and back to Ind. 49. Northbound Ind. 49 traffic will be detoured
east on State Road 10, north on U.S. 421, west on Ind. 8, and back to Ind.
