A Hammond woman was in critical condition late Monday after crashing her vehicle on I-65 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 6:09 p.m. Robin Dean Krueger, 43, was southbound on I-65, at the 244 mile marker approximately three miles south of the Crown Point exit, when for unknown reasons she lost control of her 1995 Honda, over-corrected, and left the roadway to left, colliding with the cable barrier in the median.

Krueger, unconscious after the crash, was trapped in her car and had to be extricated. A small dog with her was not injured and was turned over to Animal Control for safe-keeping.

Krueger was taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point with life threatening injuries.

“Drugs were a factor in the crash,” police said. “Alcohol tests are pending.”

The Honda was a total loss. The left lane was closed for approximately 90 minutes.
