Game birds shot in their pen in Portage

Back To Front Page

Portage Police are investigating the killing of eight game birds being raised by a resident in the 1700 block of Samuelson Road.

According to police, sometime between 3:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday someone entered the resident’s property and fatally shot the birds in their enclosed pen: five maned geese, two mandarin ducks, and a pheasant.

Police said that “a low velocity round such as a BB/pellet gun” was used, “as each bird showed only a small entrance wound.”

The birds’ owner, who was raising the birds for sale, advised that both he and other family members were home at the time in question but heard nothing.

Police put the total loss at $550.
