The Family & Youth Services Bureau of Porter County, in partnership with the Porter County juvenile court, has won an award that emphasizes family unity.

Purdue University’s College of Consumer and Family Sciences awarded the FYSB with $500 as one of three recipients of the 2005 Inspiring Families and Building Communities Award. The award was presented at the Porter County Community Foundation’s Celebration of Accomplishments on July 12.

The award honors organizations that have a direct impact on the community and emphasizes family unity.

The partnership between the FYSB and the juvenile court includes residential, out-client, and juvenile justice services. The FYSB provided services to more than 2,500 Hoosier children and families last year alone.

Other awards went to the Caring Parents Program of Columbus and the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill-West Central Indiana, of Lafayette.

“All of these groups are wonderful examples of how collaboration within a community can truly make a difference for Indiana families,” said Dennis Savaiano, dean of the College of Consumer and Family Sciences who presented the award to FYSB Executive Director Dennis Morgan, Juvenile Court Judge Mary Harper, Chief Probation Officer Amy Beier, and Juvenile Magistrate Ed Nemeth.
