Five gallons of oil spill onto Indian Boundary

Two hours before Wednesday evening’s wind storm, the Chesterton Fire Department already had its hands full, after a five-gallon bucket of oil apparently tumbled off a vehicle and left a mess at the intersection of Ind. 49 and Indian Boundary Road, the Chesterton Fire Department said.

The CFD responded to the scene at 4:31 p.m. and found on their arrival some five gallons of mobile gear lube in the westbound lanes of Indian Boundary Road, as far west as Plaza Drive and as far east as Ind. 49, Fire Chief Mike Orlich told the Chesterton Tribune.

The CFD, working with the Street Department, used sand and oil dry to remove the mess.

“No one claimed responsibility,” Orlich noted.
