No one was injured Wednesday in a fire which destroyed a bedroom in the home at 818N 500E in Jackson Township, the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department said.

Fire Chief Brian Duncan told the Chesterton Tribune today that firefighters were dispatched to the residence at 6:55 a.m. and on their arrival found flames showing from two of the ranch house’s windows. By that point the fire had also extended somewhat into the attic, Duncan said.

Assisted by the Chesterton and Westville departments, the LTVFD used 4,000 gallons to extinguish the blaze, which appears to have started in a bedroom.

Duncan had no estimate on damage but did say that the bedroom was gutted and an adjacent kitchen also damaged, with light smoke damage throughout the house.

Some amount of overal was needed in the bedroom and some ceilings were pulled as well to check for extension.

The fire is presumed accidental but the Porter County Fire Investigation Strike Team has not yet determined a cause, Duncan said.

The LTVFD cleared the scene at 11:30 a.m.
