An Avon, Ind., woman died on Sunday of injuries sustained in a three-vehicle accident on I-65, the Indiana State Police said.

The victim was identified as Ashley A. Rogers, 28.

According to police, at 5:15 p.m. Rogers was southbound on I-65 when--at the 225.5 mile marker, four miles south of the Demotte/Roselawn exit--she lost control of her Jeep. Police said that the road surface was snow-covered and slippery at the time.

Dana R. O’Brian, 37, of Gary, was also southbound and after cresting a hill saw Rogers’ Jeep spinning in the roadway, police said. O’Brian swerved left to avoid the Jeep but her 2003 Ford was struck on the front passenger’s side. It came to rest on the inside shoulder.

Trucker Kimberly S. Thietje, of Burlington, Wis., was southbound as well and after cresting the same hill saw Rogers’ Jeep in the right lane. Thietje was unable to avoid hitting the Jeep, causing her 2007 Kenworth to leave the roadway and enter a ditch and fence line.

Rogers was found lying on the inside shoulder next to the concrete barrier wall, police said. Investigators were unable to say whether she was ejected or hit while she was outside her Jeep. She was transported to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, where she later died.

O’Brian and Thietje were both wearing seatbelts and escaped injury, police said.
