Dumpster fire the second in five weeks behind diner

Back to Front Page

The Chesterton Fire Department extinguished on Sunday the second dumpster fire in only five weeks behind the County Cafe at 213 Broadway.

Firefighters were dispatched at 9:19 p.m., the CFD said, and used 100 gallons of water to douse the blaze. There was no damage to the dumpster and not much garbage inside it. The CFD cleared the scene at 9:50 p.m.

No cause has been assigned to Sunday’s fire or to another one, also on a Sunday night, on March 30. On that occasion firefighters were dispatched at 9:43 p.m. and on their arrival found the plastic lid of the 10-cubic yard dumpster already burned off.
