Driver dies in Indiana 2 and CR450E accident Saturday

A Valparaiso man died after a collision at County Road 450E and Indiana 2 in Washington Township Saturday.

Initial investigation indicated that a blue 2005 Chevy Impala driven by Bruce Evers, 65, Valparaiso, was traveling north on CR 450. As Evers pulled into the intersection, his Chevy Impala, was struck on the driver side by an eastbound 2004 maroon Ford F250 driven by Steven Ray Poort, 29, of Westville.

The driver of the Impala, Bruce Evers, died upon impact, police said.

A passenger in the Impala, Jacob Evers, 19, of Valparaiso, was transported to Porter Regional for complaint of pain to his entire body.

Poort was uninjured. Routine toxicology tests are pending.

Police said traffic on Ind. 2 has the right of way with CR 450 East having a stop sign.

Sheriff’s Police were dispatched to the scene at 2:43 p.m. Porter County’s Accident Reconstruction Team was called and Ind. 2 was shut down for approximately 2 hours.

Assisting at the scene were Washington Township Fire, Porter EMS, Porter County Coroner’s Office and Green’s Towing.
