A Knox, Ind.,
resident was arrested Tuesday on a charge of trafficking in a controlled
substance, after the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said that she
tried to smuggle synthetic marijuana to an inmate on work release at Indiana
Dunes State Park.
Christy Chavez, 38,
was being held at the Porter County Jail on a charge of trafficking, a Class
C felony punishable by a term of two to eight years.
According to the
DNR, Chavez was taken into custody after Indiana Department of Correction
officers noticed a suspicious vehicle near an area where inmates were
working inside Dunes State Park.
DNR said that
Chavez “was attempting to drop off synthetic marijuana and tobacco to a work
release inmate” from the Westville Correctional Facility.
