Chesterton Police are seeking the hit-and-run driver who struck a 15-year-old girl who was walking to school along 1100N on Monday.

According to police, at 7:30 a.m. the girl was walking westbound, with traffic, along the north edge of 1100N, east of Green Meadow Lane, and was carrying a rainbow-colored umbrella at the time. The girl was then grazed on her left shoulder by a westbound vehicle whose driver yelled “Homosexu-ality is a sin.”

The driver--a white female in her late 40s or early 50s with white hair--did slow down “for a second or two” but then left the scene in her silver SUV still westbound on 1100N.

The woman was not driving recklessly or fast, as far as the girl could remember.

The girl had a slight complaint of pain and no permanent injuries, police said.

The girl advised police that she opted not to walk in the grass, out of the road, because it was wet and muddy, and that she planned to continue walking in the roadway until she reached the sidewalk on the north side of 1100N.
