Chesterton Police
are investigating the burglary of the Dunes Coin Op Laundromat at 600
Broadway.
According to
police, sometime between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday someone
entered the business and stole $201 in cash from the money drawer, which is
typically placed in a box at the close of business every night.
Also stolen: a
blanket valued at $5.
Investigators were
unable to find any signs of forced entry, while the manager advised police
that, on arriving at the Coin Op for the day, she found the door unlocked.
She then realized that something was amiss on seeing “small boxes of fabric
softener” strewn across the floor.
“The crime scene
appeared to be purposely made messy with the fabric softener boxes,” police
said. “Also, nothing else had been disturbed. It appeared that whoever
burglarized the business knew exactly where the money was kept.”
