Chesterton Police
are investigating the wholesale shoplifting of antacids by three women at
the CVS on Friday, Jan. 22.
According to
police, at 5:47 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the CVS at 505 E. 1100N
after the shift supervisor reported that three women, in their late teens or
early twenties, had been observed filling gift bags from a shelf with
antacids. The supervisor later determined that 11 42-count boxes of Nexium
($21.99 each), five 14-count boxes of Nexium ($12.99), and nine 42-count
boxes of Prilosec ($28.99) had been stolen, with a total value of $684.66.
The three, who
several customers stated had been acting suspiciously, left the store
quickly--activating an audible alarm in the process--after one of them
bumped into an employee in an aisle, police said.
The three were seen
entering a red four-dour Hyundai with an Illinois license plate, driven by a
fourth person and last seen eastbound on 1100N, police said.
The suspects were
described as black females 5’ 6’’ to 5’ 10’’ in height with medium builds.
The one who bumped into the employee was described as having long dreadlocks
with a cloth tied in her hair, wearing a gray puffy jacket and gym shoes,
and sporting a piercing in her right nostril.
