The theft on June 12 of lottery tickets from the Luke’s One Stop at U.S. Highway 20 and Ind. 149 has led to the arrest of three Chicago residents, Burns Harbor Police said.

Ellia Jones, 59, William Jones, 64, and Isaiah D. Taylor, 19, have all been charged with theft, following an “intense investigation,” police said.

According to police, at 5:59 p.m. June 12 officers were dispatched to the Luke’s One Stop after the manager there advised that “several subjects came in and stole numerous amounts of lottery tickets.” Those three--Jones, Jones, and Taylor--“were a short time later located,” taken into custody, and transported to Porter County Jail.

Investigators subsequently determined, “with the assistance of the Indiana Lottery,” that the three are also suspects in similar thefts perpetrated elsewhere in Indiana earlier this year, police said.

“It was discovered that these subjects would steal scratch-off tickets from various locations, then cash the stolen tickets at other locations,” police said. “After the cashing in of the tickets, they would then brazenly enter business’ restricted areas and steal more tickets and sometimes employee personal items. In most locations there is video surveillance coverage of their actions.”
