A 36-year-old Chesterton man who was found dead on Friday in a bathroom on
Fox Point Drive amid drug paraphernalia, Chesterton Police said.
According to police, at 4:38 a.m. officers were dispatched to the residence
after the man’s mother forced open the locked bathroom door with a
screwdriver and discovered her son unconscious and unresponsive. EMS
personnel subsequently determined that the man had died several hours
earlier, police said.
The man’s mother advised police that her son had a history of heroin abuse
but that she believed he had “not used for some time.”
Found on the sink in the bathroom was the cut bottom of an aluminum can
containing a white residue and burned material, police said. The orange cap
of a medical syringe was observed next to the can as well as a lighter, a
bottle of water, and a small rectangular piece of aluminum foil, police
said. When the body was moved, a used syringe was found on the floor beneath
where the man had slumped, police said.
County Coroner Robert Schulte did not return a call this morning from the
Chesterton Tribune.
