The 2-year-old Chesterton boy who reportedly fell from a trampoline on Friday in the 1000 block of Woodlawn Ave. has died, the Chesterton Police Department said.

The child was identified as Bentley Mihal.

Det. Sgt. Chunk Rinker told the Chesterton Tribune after deadline on Tuesday that Bentley died Sunday afternoon at University of Chicago Medicine Comer’s Children Hospital, where he’d been airlifted after Chesterton EMS initially transported him to Porter Regional Hospital.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, Rinker said.

According to police, at 9:13 a.m. the CPD and CFD responded to the scene “for report of a 2-year-old that fell off a trampoline and was not breathing.”

Police Chief Dave Cincoski told the Tribune today that an investigation is being conducted by his detectives--and in conjunction with the Porter County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Indiana Department of Child Services--as is routine in the case of a child’s death under such circumstances.

Cincoski said that the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet officially determined the cause of death.
