Chesterton
firefighters rescued a raccoon on Tuesday from a restroom at the Duneland
Resale Shop.
Capt. Rudy Jimenez
told the Chesterton Tribune today that just before 11 a.m. a Resale
Shop volunteer walked across the street to the fire station to ask for help
in removing a raccoon which had somehow gotten inside the building and was
currently in a restroom.
Lt. Steve Himan,
armed with a lasso device used by animal control officers--the CFD has found
it convenient to keep one at the ready, Jimenez noted--and accompanied by
Firefighter/EMT Brad Tyskiewicz, managed quite easily to secure the fellow,
then walked him out of the building and released him on Eighth Street, “far
enough from the store” to make it unlikely that he’d return.
Jimenez described
the raccoon as young and small and said that he “looked pretty healthy.”
How he got into the
Resale Shop is anyone’s guess, Jimenez added.
