Burglary spree on CR 700 in Liberty

Back To Front Page

Three homes were burglarized in Liberty Township on Thursday, all of them on C.R. 700N just east of Meridian Road, all while their owners were at work, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

The burglaries appear to have been committed in the morning, sometime after 8 a.m. The first burglary was discovered at 12 p.m., the other two later in the day.

Two of the homes were forcibly entered, one through a kicked-in door, the other through a rear door whose screen was cut. The third residence appears to have been entered through an unsecured sliding door.

Stolen from one residence: a Remington 870 shotgun and two bolt-action .22 caliber rifles, with a total value of $1,500.

Stolen from another: a Magnavox 42-inch television, a Sony Vaio 15-inch laptop computer, and $200 in loose change, with a total value of $1,700.

Stolen from the third: several pieces of jewelry whose value has not yet been determined.

At one of the scenes a witness did see, at mid-morning, a strange vehicle parked in the driveway. It was described as a silver passenger car, possibly a Buick LeSabre or similar model, driven by a white male in his twenties with “whitish” blond hair. The witness added that the suspect vehicle has a “very loud exhaust system.”
