A LaPorte woman was seriously injured on Tuesday in a one-vehicle accident on I-94 in Porter County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, just before 11 a.m. Jeremy Morgan, 33, of Michigan City, was westbound on I-94, just east of the Portage exit, when he lost control of his 2008 Mazda pickup truck, which left the roadway and rolled at least four times before coming to rest on its roof by a fence near the tree line.

Morgan, who was wearing his seatbelt, sustained minor injuries but his passenger, and sister, Jessica Ann Morgan, 25, of LaPorte, was airlifted from the scene with life-threatening injuries to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., police said.

Both east- and westbound traffic was closed for a short time for the landing and take-off of the helicopter.

“The Indiana State Police would like to remind motorists that wind and sub-zero temperatures may cause icy/black ice conditions on the roadways, especially on bridges and ramps,” police said.
