A Valparaiso man died Sunday of injuries sustained in a two vehicle accident on Saturday on U.S. Highway 6 in Liberty Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

The victim was identified as Thomas Campbell, 62.

According to police, at 10:26 p.m. Campbell was westbound on U.S. 6, in the area of C.R. 60E, when he crossed the center line in his 2002 Chevrolet Corvette and collided head-on with a second vehicle eastbound on U.S. 6.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 2010 Ford Explorer, was Pamela Chancey, 49, of Valparaiso.

Campbell and Chancey were both transported to Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, police said, and Campbell was subsequently airlifted with severe chest and abdominal injuries to Loyola Hospital in Chicago, where he died on Sunday.

“Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor for both drivers,” police said, and “charges are pending toxicology reports. The investigation is continuing.”
