The Porter County Sheriff’s Police has taken the report of a Liberty
Township resident who was the target of a Craig’s List scammer.
According to
police, on Wednesday the resident advised that, in response to his sale ad
on Craig’s List, a person calling himself “Bobby James” e-mailed him to say
that he wished to purchase the item in question. James subsequently sent the
resident a check in the amount of $1,950, more than the agreed-upon purchase
price, and told the resident to keep the purchase price and an extra $100
for “his time and troubles” but to return the unneeded balance of the check.
The resident
subsequently learned that the out-of-state check had bounced, police said.
The resident
added that he had been instructed to send the item for purchase to James at
an address in Oklahoma City, Okla., and the refund money to a “Johnny
Parker” at an address in Moore Park, Calif.
