A Chesterton man died in a two vehicle accident on Monday in Gary, the Lake
County Coroner’s Office said.
The victim was identified as Wayne D. Hernstrom, 48.
Chief Deputy Coroner P.J. Adams told the Chesterton Tribune today
that, at 11:37 p.m., investigators were dispatched to the area of U.S.
Highway 20 and Alabama Street in response to a report of a car-versus-semi
collision.
Hernstrom, driving the passenger vehicle, sustained “traumatic blunt force
injuries,” Adams said, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:15 a.m.
Tuesday.
The Gary Police Department is investigating the crash, Adams added. As of
deadline today, the GPD had not returned a call to the Tribune.
