A LaPorte woman has died of injuries sustained in crash on Tuesday, March 22,
at the intersection of Ind. 49 and C.R. 600N in Center Township.
Muriel J. Summa, 67, died at 9:46 a.m. Friday in the Intensive Care Unit of
Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Porter County Coroner Vicki Deppe told the
Chesterton Tribune today.
According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Police, at 4:29 p.m. on March 22
Summa was eastbound on C.R. 600N when she proceeded from the stop sign at the
intersection of Ind. 49, apparently in an attempt to reach the median, and
was struck by a second vehicle southbound on Ind. 49.
The driver of the second vehicle, Kayla M. Fleming, 19, of Chesterton,
complained of pain to her leg and her passenger, Anne R. Sharpe, 16, also of
Chesterton, complained of chest pain, police said.
Summa was the third person to die last week in crashes on Porter County
roads.
Lisa M. Abramson, 35, of Jackson Township, died Thursday in a weather-related
accident when she struck a concrete bridge support for the Indiana Toll Road
in the area of C.R. 400E and C.R. 950N in Jackson Township. And William
Maller, 82, of Knox, died on Thursday as well, also in a weather related
