Porter Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the man who robbed
the Porter Quick Stop on Sunday at gun point.
According to police, at 7:03 p.m. a male subject entered the business at 20
E. U.S. Highway 20 and waited until other customers had left. He then
displayed an unknown type of black handgun and removed an undetermined amount
of cash from the register.
The clerk on duty advised police that the suspect fled the business westbound
on foot in the direction of Waverly Road. Two K-9 units brought to the scene
by the Porter County Sheriff’s Police tracked the suspect to the roadway, and
investigators believe that the suspect escaped in a vehicle.
The suspect was described as a white male approximately 25 years of age, 5’
4’’ in height with red hair and freckles. He was wearing a jeans-type jacket,
black jeans, a black beanie-style hat, and black leather gloves.
Investigators are currently reviewing video surveillance tape.
The clerk did advise police that a customer who had been filling his gas tank
at the time of the robbery entered the store shortly after the robber had
fled. When the clerk told that customer that the business had just been
robbed the customer threw his money on the counter and said that he was going
to follow the suspect. But the customer never returned and investigators said
that they would like to speak to him.
Anyone with information on the robber or robbery or who may have observed
suspicious activity in the area is encouraged to call the PPD at 926-7611.
