A Valley Stream, N.Y., trucker died in a freak accident early this morning
at the Portage Plaza of the Indiana Toll Road, the Indiana State Police
said.
The victim was identified as Jaroslaw Lelis, 47.
According to police, at 2:08 a.m. Lelis was eastbound on the Toll Road when
he stopped in lane 4E of the plaza, located at the 24 mile marker, and
opened his door to get a ticket. Police said that Lelis’ semi-tractor
trailer then began to roll backwards and that Lelis was wedged between the
driver’s door of his rig and a concrete pole.
Lelis sustained massive head trauma, police said, and was transported to
Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus.
