Portage Police are investigating the death of a Portage woman who was struck by a vehicle as she lay in the roadway on Hamstrom Road.

The victim was identified as Lynn Rasco, 45. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning.

According to police, at 12:27 a.m. a Valparaiso motorist was southbound on Hamstrom Road when he observed an object in the roadway under the westbound Indiana Toll Road overpass. The motorist advised police that he tried to swerve but was unable to avoid striking the object.

When officers arrived on the scene, police said, they found Rasco deceased.

The PPD Crash Team is conducting the investigation.
