The Chesterton Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying
the man who robbed the Speedway at 458 N. Calumet Road on Thursday.
According to police, at 8:58 p.m. the clerk at the Speedway was in a back
room when she heard the front-door bell sound. On coming out of the office,
she observed a male subject at the register with his right hand in his
pocket. The subject instructed her to give him all the money in the register
and added that “if she didn’t they would have a problem.”
The clerk then opened the register and the subject reached into it himself
and removed the cash, leaving only the $1 bills. The subject then fled out
the front door and was last seen walking north from the business.
The suspect was described as a white male, in his late thirties or early
forties, with a thin build, wearing a jean jacket, a white hooded
sweatshirt, a dark colored baseball caps, and sunglasses.
The clerk never saw a weapon and the suspect never stated that he had a
weapon, police said.
The Speedway is still attempting to determine the amount of money stolen in
the robbery.
Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to
contact the CPD at 926-1136.
