Velda Foley dies at 94

Velda Foley, age 94, of Chesterton, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009 at her residence.

She was born in McCleansboro, Ill. April 30, 1914 the daughter of George and Louette (Fugua) Thomas, both of whom preceded her in death.

On December 26, 1931 she married Wayne Foley, who preceded her in death.

Velda is survived by a son, Thomas Wayne (Patricia) Foley of Chesterton; a daughter, Shirley (Richard) Knutson of Valparaiso; a brother George Clyde (Vi) Thomas of Fairfield, Ill.; sisters, Blanch Anderson of Valparaiso and Dorothy (Elsworth) Williams of Louisville, Ky.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by brothers Dale, Earl and Ervin Thomas and sister, Helen Fiellio.

She was homemaker and an active member of the senior citizens group at Hawthorne Park and a long time bunco club member. She also worked in the kitchen for Chesterton community schools.

A funeral service, Chaplain Craig Forewalter officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 30, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

A visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at the funeral home.

Memorials for Velda may be made to the V.N.A. Hospice Center of Porter County.
