Services set for Ken Meyers

Valparaiso resident Kenneth R. Meyers, 78, the father of a Chesterton resident, died Monday, July 6, 2009.

Kenneth was born in Lowell, Indiana on March 9, 1931 to Elmer H. and Alice S. (Rosenthal) Meyers.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his children, Keith (Jan) Meyers of Chesterton, Becky (John) Meggers of Hammond, Terry (Debbie) Meyers of Seymour, Danny (Janice) Meyers of Lowell, and Sheri (Ed) Ruge of Valparaiso; his step-children, Jeff (Debbie) Matanich of Hegerstown, Ind., Larry (Rita) Matanich of Louisville, Ky., Lee Matanich of Tampa, Fla., and Todd (Peggy) Matanich of LaQuinta, Calif.; grandchildren, Michelle (Rudy) Jimenez, Doug (Natasha) Meyers, Allison and Sarah (fiance Scott Goodwin) Meggers, Matthew Meyers, Katy Meyers and David (Amber) Meyers, Nathan and Kyle Ruge; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Ty Jimenez, Michael and Joey Meyers; sister, Joann (Robert) Truesdell of LaPorte; brother, Norman (Norma) Meyers of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Roger Strong of Cedar Lake, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth.

Ken, formerly of Lowell, was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Valparaiso and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowell. He was retired from Ogden Engineering and A&B Welding and farming. Ken was an avid White Sox and IU basketball fan. He graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1949.

Funeral services, Pastors Chad Kendall and John Albers officiating, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowell, with burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Crown Point.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 604 E. Commercial Ave. in Lowell, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the VNA Horton Hospice in Valparaiso, or to the Parkinson Foundation.
