Robert L. Taylor dies at 89

Robert L. Taylor, “Mr. T”, of Chesterton, passed away Sunday February 8, 2009 at Porter Hospital Valparaiso Campus. He was 89.

Bob was born in Porter, on February 4, 1920 the son of Earl and June (McIntyre) Taylor both of whom preceded him in death.

In Gary, on Nov. 27, 1948 he married Violet May Neeley who preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 1997. 

He is survived by sons, Larry (Teri) Taylor of Chesterton, and Loren (Kathy) Taylor of Chesterton; a sister Pat (Bill) Adams of Floral City, Fla.; grandsons, Dirk, Michael, Larry Jr., Mark and Steven. 

He was also preceded in death by son Mark Randall Taylor; brothers, Cecil, Vernon and Earl Taylor and sister, Dody.

Bob worked as a machinist at Inland Steel retiring after 36 years. He was a member of Chesterton American Legion Post 170 and volunteered and repaired lamps for the Duneland Resale Shop. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Patton’s 3rd army.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. 

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 10 with an American Legion service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. 

Memorials for Bob may be made to Meals on Wheels or the Duneland Resale Shop.
