Marian E. Edquist of LaPorte, formerly of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 at LaPorte Regional Health System, following a lengthy illness. She was 93.

Marian was born on March 26, 1916 to the late Nels Peter Victor and Anna (Wistrand) Charlson in Porter. She was one of seven children raised in the Charlson family.

After graduating as the salutatorian from Chesterton High School in 1934, Marian went on to graduate from Gary Business College. On October 20, 1938, she married Evar Edquist at the Augsburg Lutheran Church in Porter. Together they had four children.

Marian worked as a legal secretary and office manager for several local businesses in Chesterton and retired from Elgin-Honey Hill Corporation where she was an office manager. Along with being a very active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton for many years, she volunteered at Porter Memorial Hospital for 20 years, served on the board of directors for Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles, Mich. since 1985, and was a member of a local Pinochle Club and a Jacks and Janes Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband Evar in 1970; daughter Cynthia Marimon in 1996; infant son Vincent Edquist; brothers Vincent, Alvin and Vernon Charlson; sisters Elvera Peterson, Eleanor Benson and Edith Martinson; and grandson Mark Marimon.

She is survived by sons Bert Edquist (wife Carol) of South Bend and Dr. Daniel Edquist (Janice) of La Porte; son-in-law John Marimon of Valparaiso; and grandchildren Jill Malings of Carmel, Ind., Eric Marimon of Valparaiso, Timothy Edquist of Denver, Colo., Christopher Edquist (Leah) of Chicago, Benjamin Edquist of Lafayette, Kelly Edquist of Indianapolis, Nicholas Edquist of La Porte, Nathaniel Edquist of La Porte, and Kaitlin Edquist of LaPorte.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St. in Chesterton. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W 1100 N., Chesterton, with Rev. Jane Aicher, D. Min., officiating. Burial will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
