L. Joan Peak dies at 75

L. Joan Peak, age 75, of Chesterton, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care Center, Michigan City.

She was born January 22, 1934 in Chrisman, Ill. the daughter of Karl M. and Julia E. (Ireland) McKee, both of whom preceded her in death.

On April 28, 1956 in Michigan City, she married Thomas L. Peak, he passed away June 11, 2008.

Surviving are her daughters Julie (Larry “Loren”) Gibson of Michigan City and Carole (Bill) Harman of Battle Creek, Mich.; grandchildren, Neil T. and Chad D. Gibson, and brother Dale McKee of Leesburg, Fla.; seven nieces and nephews, and special friend Audrey.

She was preceded in death by her brother Karl McKee on April 18, 2009, and two nieces Karlene Ruge and Kristine Moser.

Joan had been a secretary at the Porter County courthouse until her retirement.

She was an active member of Porter County Farm Bureau and the Republican Women of Porter County. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She cherished her time with family and friends.

Funeral services, Rev. John L. Mikenas III officiating, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at St. Luke United Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, and from noon until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
