Joyce Swisher dies at 79

Joyce Swisher (nee Burger), 79, of Valparaiso, formerly of Chesterton, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009.

She was born August 31, 1929 the daughter of Lester and Mable Burger, both of whom preceded her in death.

Joyce was also preceded in death by her husband Carl Swisher.

Joyce is survived by three daughters, Cheryn Klemz and Mary Nies both of Lacrosse, and Darcy (George) Stavropoulos of Westville; Joyce has nine beloved grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by one brother Lester (Mary) Burger of Wheatfield, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death was a sister, Betty Kirk; a brother, Charles Burger; a son-in-law, Robert Klemz, and granddaughter, Tracy McMeans.

Joyce worked for many years at AmCorp in Chesterton, before becoming a full time homemaker. Her faith in God was very strong, even as she battled her illness. She had many good friends and was loved and respected by all who knew her. Joyce was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend.

A celebration of her life will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway Chesterton.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday with service from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be preceding at Chesterton Cemetery. Memorials can be given in Joyce's name to the family.
