Jack S. Phillips dies at 63

Jack S. Phillips, 63 of Chesterton, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009.

He was born March 11, 1946 in Gary, the son of Robert and Geraldine (Sullens) Phillips, both of whom preceded him in death.

On February 23, 1974 in Portage, he married Darla Chapman, who survives in Chesterton.

Also surviving are his children, Matthew Scott (Kate) Phillips of Washington, Ryan Allan (Melissa) Phillips of Maine and Samuel Gordon (Megan) Phillips of North Carolina and four grandchildren. A brother Roger (Judy) Phillips of Valparaiso, a step-mother Mary Phillips and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was also preceded in death by a sister Diane Riggsby and his step-father Wayne Silkwood.

Jack was a US Navy Veteran and an expert systems consultant. He was a member of the Augsburg Lutheran Church in Porter and an avid soccer player and member of the Duneland Men’s Soccer League. He was also a longtime youth coach, a math professor, a Cubs fan, a foreign language enthusiast and international traveler.

A Memorial Service, Pastor Freda Scales officiating, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 N. Washington St. Valparaiso,
