Vera (Leonsky) Struk passes away at age 91

Vera (Leonsky) Struk, age 91 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020.

She was born on December 28, 1928, in Novocherkassk, Ukraine, to Ivan and Matilda Leonsky.

She is survived by her children, Alexander Struk, Jr., and Myroslava Struk Goldwater and son-in-law, Michael Goldwater.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Struk in 1992.

Vera survived a forced labor camp at a young age during WWII and then a displaced person camp following the war. She came to the U.S. at age 20 and began working and going to school to help to take care of her family. She worked hard her entire life to build a good life for her children and provide them all the experiences she never had. She held many jobs during her life including seamstress at a parachute company during the Korean Conflict, she was a original IBM processor and she worked 20 years at the American Bridge Company in data processing.

Vera loved spending time with her husband and children and they enjoyed her just as much, going to concerts and hanging out with friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date following the COVID-19 restrictions.
