Mary Scott passes away at age 67

Mary Scott, age 67 of Chesterton, IN, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2020.

She was born on January 21, 1953 in Charleston, WV, to Ofa and Kathleen (King) Shaffer, both of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Tamatha “Renee Scott” (Tony) Lozano of Chesterton, IN; her adoring grandson, Anthony Lozano of Chesterton, IN; her best friend of over 40 years, Jane (Lou) Pivarski of Christopher, IL; her dear friends: Donna and Jerry Daniels of Michigan City, IN, Margaret Zerby of Valparaiso, IN, and Pastor Rodney Rudd of Portage, IN; her sister, Emma Mae Thaxton of Charleston, WV; and by her many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, William Scott; and by her brothers, Clinton Shaffer and Charles “Pete” Scott.

During her high school and college years, Mary worked tirelessly at her family’s diner to pay her way through college. She studied economics in West Virginia, and she received the Scholarship for Betty Crocker Award, which helped pay her way through college.

Mary lived in Chesterton in the same home for 47 years. She started her own business, Deliveries Unlimited, which she owned for 35 years. She delivered for the Chesterton Tribune and local flower shops.

She also worked for WMU, was a substitute teacher, and also worked as a nurse for the Highland Lakes Baptist Center in Indianapolis. Her favorite restaurant of all-time was Santiago’s in Porter.

No services will be held at this time.
