Karen Passons (ne Dilworth) passed away May 23, 2020, surrounded by family and special friend, Ed Samples, at her Mt. Juliet, TN, home after a two-year battle with cancer. Following a chemotherapy regimen, she volunteered to participate in a trial group seeking a possible cure.

She was born May 24, 1954, in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of Herbert Dilworth, Jr. (deceased) and Juetta Dilworth who survives.

Karen is also survived by sisters Alicia (Kevin) Brennan, Chesterton, IN; Susan Johnson, Ypsilanti, Michigan; and brother Bert (Jenny) Dilworth, Michigan City, IN. She had two nieces, Michelle Johnson and Katie (Josh) Malone and two nephews, Mark (Renee) Brennan and Tim Johnson.

Karen graduated from Chesterton High School in 1972 and Indiana University in 1976 with a degree in Journalism, which led to a career with Curtis Publishing. Throughout her entire adult life she was very active in animal rescue in the Nashville area. And as a dedicated dog breeder and trainer, both Karen and her kennel were well-known throughout the U.S. Many of her dogs even won National Championships.

Karen was equally compassionate when it came to the needs of folks who found themselves in dire straits. For instance, she willingly opened her home for many months to several strangers during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She was also involved in various outreach ministries as a member of Providence Methodist Church in Mt. Juliet, where she served as a greeter.

A memorial service will be held in her honor later this year.
