Benjamin Scott Hibshman passes away at age 49

Benjamin Scott Hibshman of Michigan City, IN, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at the age of 49. He bravely fought a battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

Ben is survived by his two children, Elizabeth Hibshman, 16, and Evan Hibshman, 13, of Chesterton, IN. He is also survived by his mother, Doris Hibshman of Noblesville, IN; his father, Doug Hibshman (Beverly Cutter) of Asheville, NC; his sister-in-law Sandy (Chris) Hibshman; nephews Carter Grove and Sam Hibshman, and niece, Grace Hibshman of Carmel, IN; his girlfriend, Rory Drennan of Michigan City; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins in Lancaster County, PA.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Hibshman of Carmel, IN, and both paternal and fraternal grandparents.

Benjamin was born February 27, 1971, in Valparaiso, IN. He graduated from Michigan City’s Rogers High School in 1989. Ben was an avid Cubs fan who loved spending time with his children. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, going on hikes, fishing, snowmobiling, listening to live music and hanging out with friends.

He is remembered by his friends and family for his warmth and quick-witted dry sense of humor. Ben meant so much to his friends and family and will be sorely missed.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and for the safety of the family and the community at large, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
