Mary Gregor Lee,
age 94, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on March 19, 2019, after a long
and fulfilling life.
Mary is survived by
her daughters Mary Patricia Hayes of Chicago, IL, Nanette Estes (Larry) of
Anniston, Alabama, and her son Robert “Bob” (Francine) of Grayslake, IL. She
is also survived by her brother Cory Gregor (Kathy) of Miller, Indiana. She
also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many
nieces and nephews. Also near and dear were nephew, Tom Lee, and niece,
Maryann Kirk, who still reside nearby.
Mary was preceded
in death by her husband Robert “Bob”, and daughters Barbara and Wendy;
brothers Bobby and Jimmy; sisters Angeline, Ruth and twin sister, Helen.
Mary was born in
Gary, Indiana, to first generation Czech immigrants, Angeline Krcmar and
Vaclav Gregor, who settled in Gary due to work at the steel mill. It was at
US Steel where Mary met her future husband, Bob, and married in 1945, just
weeks after the end of WW II. Mary and Bob settled in Chesterton in the
early 1950’s where she raised her family and became involved in St. Patrick
Church including many years as a Eucharistic Minister. She had a long career
at Chesterton Rural Savings & Loan followed by working at Carson, Pirie,
She sent her kids
to St. Patrick’s Catholic School in the ‘50s and ‘60s back when almost all
teachers were nuns and discipline was often administered with a ruler (ask
her son, Bob, for details). In 1977, she and her husband traveled to
Czechoslovakia for that once-in-a-lifetime trip to visit remaining relatives
in Prague. Mary will be missed by the many people whom have been a part of

A Mass of Christian
Burial will be held on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick
Catholic Church, 638 North Calumet Road, Chesterton, IN.
The family will
receive friends on Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., at
White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton, IN.
