Service and visitation Wednesday for Lester E. Babcock, 77

Lester E. Babcock, age 77 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019.

He was born on January 5, 1942, in Porter County, IN, to Lester and Gertrude (Eastman) Babcock.

Lester is survived by his wife, Pamela (Tavernier) Babcock; son, Daron (Lillian) Babcock; daughter, Dawn (Ryan) Mills; sisters, Adrienne (Norbert) Milzarek, Gayle (William) Watts and Jeanine (Richard) Janusaitis; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Christopher, Benjamin and Samantha Mills, Catherine Ytell and Diego Babcock and many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Lester was a member of the Porter United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army where he served two years on active duty as an Artilleryman at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and four years in the reserves. He worked at Hopkins Illinois Elevator Company in Chicago and then for NIPSCO at the Bailey Generating Station, and retired as a supervisor. Lester was a member of the Moose Lodge in Chesterton and participated as an umpire and coach for many years with State Park Little League. He dedicated many years to Rebuilding Duneland and Meal on Wheels of Porter County and participated in Duneland Seniors at Hawthorne Park, in Porter. Lester enjoyed bowling, hunting, poker and golf and especially fishing at Callahan Lake Resort that his great-grandparents owned in Haywood, WI. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN, 46304, with Pastor Liz Lahaie officiating.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA Hospice, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
