Services Monday for Joseph 'Joey' Niepokoj

Joseph “Joey” Niepokoj, age 24, of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Porter, IN, passed away July 1, 2018.

Joey was born in Valparaiso on December 21, 1993, to Bruce & Carol (Krause) Niepokoj.

He is survived by his loving parents, Bruce and Carol Niepokoj of Porter; grandmother, Bernice Niepokoj of Valparaiso; aunts and uncles, Karen Chartier, Martin Plesha, Steve Niepokoj, Laurie (Ernie) Crownover and Tom (Julie) Niepokoj; and cousins, Paul Niepokoj, Stephanie Dunn, Kristin Niepokoj, Amy Janousek, Brian Niepokoj, Eric and Ryan Crownover, Kellie Niepokoj, Casey Swanson, Patrick Niepokoj and Brian, Carol and Kevin Chartier.

Joey is also survived by his close friend, Matt Kusbel and many other close friends he considered brothers, as well as many other dear old and new friends and his cat, Cat Stevens. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Chester Niepokoj; maternal grandparents, John and Helen Plesha and his uncle, Daniel Niepokoj.

Joey graduated from Chesterton High School Class of 2012. He graduated Cum Laude from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. earning a BS in Business Administration. He was a member of and served on the board as V.P. of the NMU Ski & Board Club. He currently worked as a Sales Consultant for Indiana Beverage.

Joey competed at the IHSAA Boys Cross Country State Tournament level for CHS in 2010 and 2011. He enjoyed soccer, baseball, skateboarding, wakeboarding, hunting, fishing, running and bicycling. He skied the Rocky Mountains at age three and his true passion was snowboarding; he loved going with his close friends to the terrain park and achieving perfection. In May of 2018 Joey was able to fulfill one of his dreams when he went snowboarding at Mt. Hood, Oregon, while camping with his college buddies. Joey loved life, he loved his family dearly and enjoyed every moment he got to spend with them. He is loved and will be truly missed by his family and all who had the good fortune of knowing him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, IN with Father Jon Plavcan and Father John Barasinski officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 8, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.

Memorials may be made to St. Ann of the Dunes Catholic Church, St. Patrick Catholic Community or School.
