Services Friday for Earl Edgar Meneely, Jr., age 100

Earl Edgar Meneely, Jr., 100, died on Friday, June 15, 2018, at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, IN.

Earl was born on January 18, 1918, in Fontenet, Indiana. The son of Earl Meneely Sr. and Inez (Haynes) Meneely, who preceded him in death.

Earl married Margaret Hewitt on November 22, 1961, in Chesterton, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death, Rochelle, and her husband, Ronald Groff of Chesterton, and Mitch Winey, great-grandson, of Chesterton.

Surviving family members are Roger (wife Geraldine) of Chesterton, Robert (Connie) Hewitt of Reynoldsburg, OH, Richard Hewitt of Chesterton, Margo (Tim) Winey of Chesterton, Linda (John) Ault of Hammond. Also great-grandchildren, Clinton, Austin, Paige, and great-great granddaughter, Olivia.

Earl was a resident of Porter for over 65 years while owning his own heating and plumbing business. He enjoyed international travel, spending time outdoors, and was an avid bird watcher. Earl was most happy in the company of others, sharing stories of his life and his many years of military service. Earl was a Sergeant in the USMC during WWII and was stationed in the south pacific from 1941 till 1945. He was a 34th degree Mason and a member at the Calumet Lodge 379, in Chesterton. Earl was also a long serving member of the Orak Shriners in Michigan City, as well as a member of the Porter VFW 2511. He was a member of Porter United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 22, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton with Chaplain Forwalter officiating. He will be interred in Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 21, with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans.
