Neil McGary dies at 90; services Saturday at St. Patrick

Neil W. McGary passed away of natural causes in Northport, Fla., on Thursday, March 1, 2018.

Neil was born April 24, 1927, to Neil W. McGary and Margaret (Spengler) McGary in Derby, N.Y.

In 1953 he married Mary J. Cole in Hamburg, N.K. He is survived by his wife Margaret McGary of Buffalo, N.Y.; his children Colleen (Craig) Ramquist, Timothy (Valerie) McGary, and Maureen (Mark) Jaeger; grandchildren Ryan (Lindsay) McGary, Molly (Ryan) Shidler, Lauren Carr, Mitchell McGary, and Caitlin Scott (Justin Holkan); four great grandchildren; and stepchildren Margaret (Meg) Villa, Kathy Glass, Jeanne Ebersole, and Fred Zillner of Derby, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Mary; son Neil W McGary Jr.; and granddaughter Carissa Scott.

Neil started his career with Bethlehem Steel Lackawanna plant in 1944, transferring to the Burns Harbor Plant in 1964. Neil retired in 1982 and enjoyed 35 years of retirement, spending his winters in Florida, moving there permanently in 2006.

Neil enjoyed working around his yard, home, and his school house on Waverly Road that he owned for over 40 years. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, and voicing his opinion. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton.
