On Saturday,
October 13, 2018, Deborah Sederberg, loving wife and mother of two
daughters, passed away at age 71.
Deborah was born on
September 9, 1947, in Oakland, CA, to Raymond and Margaret (Zerza) Kromgols.
She was a long-time
resident of northwest Indiana, who had recently moved to Chicago.
She studied English
and music at Indiana University and went on to work as a reporter for The
News Dispatch. On October 13, 1973, she married William Sederberg and they
raised two daughters.
Deborah had a
passion for music and spent many years directing the choir at St. Ann of the
Dunes in Beverly Shores. She also had a passion for reading and making books
accessible to all. She showed this passion through her time on the
Chesterton Library Board and her annual holiday book drive, Operation
Bookworm.
Her zest for wit
won her columns many awards during her time at The News Dispatch and she was
beloved in the community of Michigan City for her reporting. One of her
greatest joys, particularly after her retirement from The News Dispatch in
2012, was spending time with her grandchildren.
Deborah was
preceded in death by her father, Raymond and her mother, Margaret. She is
survived by her husband William of Chicago, her two daughters, Rachael
(Dustin) Ferrell of Chicago; and Joy Sederberg (Haydn Bush) of Chicago, her
grandchildren; Howell Bush, Emma Ferrell, Colin Ferrell, Henry Ferrell and
Amelia Ferrell; her sister Diana Jackson of Chesterton; and several cousins,
nieces, and nephews.
A Memorial Mass
will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at St. Ann of the Dunes, in
Beverly Shores, at 11 a.m., with visitation preceding the mass at 10 a.m.
A Celebration of
Life Reception will follow at The Spa in Porter.
