David Stephen Hamilla, age 70, passes away

David Stephen Hamilla, age 70 of Chesterton, passed away on September 4, 2018.

He was born on May 9, 1948 in Warren, OH, to Stephen Hamilla Jr., who preceded him in death in 1989, and Valeria J. Hamilla (Berdak), who survives in Pennsylvania.

David is survived by his loving children: Jennifer (Steve) Onuska, Nate (Stephanie) Hamilla, Stephanie (Matt) Leslie, all of Pennsylvania, and Rachel (George) Hamilla of Ohio; his grandchildren: Adalyn Onuska, Kali Hamilla, Kendra Onuska, Ethan Hamilla, and Maddox Leslie; and by his siblings: Brian (Denise) Hamilla of Pennsylvania, Jean Hamilla of Oregon, and Gail Zuby of California.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He was a biologist, geologist, chef, and environmental consultant. He was interested in all things regarding fauna, flora, and geological aspects of this planet. His love of the subjects was exhibited in his constant desire to teach others. His latest work involved botanical studies and publications concerning the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN.
