Celebration of Life Sunday for Robert Lee 'Bob' Johnson

Robert Lee “Bob” Johnson, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, with his family by his side. Bob was born on April 13, 1934 in Horicon, Wisconsin to Clarence and Norma (Pieper) Johnson.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet (Meier) Johnson; children, Gregory Lee (Linda) Johnson of Cedarburg, WI and Margaret Michelle “Peggy” (James) Portelli of Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren, Natalie and Jordan Johnson and Janet “Rosie” Portelli; siblings, Delores Sharkey of Beaver Dam, WI, Marlene Marsch of Horicon, WI, Charles Johnson of Beaver Dam, WI, Judy Thompson of Horicon, WI and Shirley (Tom) Doughty of Kewaskum, WI; sister in law, Donna Johnson of Barrington, IL; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Vincent Gerard Portelli; brother, Richard Johnson; brother in laws, Gerald Marsch, and Errol Thompson; sister in law, Sarah Johnson.

Janet and Bob met in Fond du Lac, WI, and married in 1961. They have resided in Northwest Indiana for over 45 years. Bob joined the Navy at age 17 and was a member of the Special Forces. In his youth, Bob was a gifted athlete and enjoyed playing baseball for the Navy. Following his naval service, Bob worked for Transamerica Credit Corporation and later went into banking. Bob had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was lifelong sports fan and avid fan of the Cubs and the Bears. One of the great joys in Bob’s life was following his children and grandchildren’s sporting endeavors. After retirement, he worked with his friend Bert at Bert’s Bagels in Chesterton, IN for many years.

A celebration of Bob’s life will take place on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.

A memorial service for Bob will be held in Horicon, WI, in June.
