Back To Front Page

Frederick “Fred” Millet, age 70, life-long resident of Chesterton and Porter, IN, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on August 27, 2018.

Fred was born July 8, 1948, to George and Helen Millet.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughter Machelle (Joe) Wagner, mother Helen, brothers Alan, George (Kathy), Richard (DeeAnn), sister Mary Ann (Fred) Lundquist, nieces and nephews Melanie, Michele, Jennifer, Leslie, Andy, and Arik, many great-nephews and nieces, and step-granddaughters Whitney and Jenna. He is preceded in death by his father.

Fred proudly served in Vietnam - Air Force division, achieving many military awards including Airman of the Year. He worked at U.S. Steel, Levy Company, and Beemsterboer Slag as an Operations Manager. After retirement he, along with his wife, daughter, and son-in-law opened Green Garage, a furniture, gift and housewares shop in downtown Chesterton.

His love of life was felt by everyone he met. Always with a smile, a heart a mile wide, his presence alone made you feel welcome. He loved to laugh (a contagious laugh it was), spend time with family and friends and was granted the nickname “Goose” by golf buddies. Many a day he was seen tooling around in his golf cart, visiting friends and watching beach sunsets with his wife. Always willing to help others, he and son-in-law made their way to Hurricane Harvey Relief in Texas a year ago. He stated it was the most rewarding trip of his lifetime. Spending idle time with daughter picking for furniture to refurbish and finding laughs at every turn. He was a man that will truly be missed.

He passed away leaving no words unsaid, listening to Frank Sinatra with wife, daughter, son-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Leslie and Bryan White, and mother-in-law, Violet, all near.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Spa Speakeasy & Special Event Center, 333 N Mineral Springs Rd., Chesterton, IN, 46304.
