Emma P. Makarewich,
age 90 of Chesterton, formerly of Munster, passed away on Friday, February
24, 2017, at Addison Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on
October 15, 1926 in Hammond, IN, to Michael and Mary Horvat Paloney, both of
whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by
her daughters, Suzanne Musikantow of San Rafael, CA, and Lisa Tam of San
Jose, CA; her grandchildren: Michael (Angelina) Makarewich, Shaun (Alana)
Makarewich, Ryan (Haley) Makarewich, Kristal (Alex) Makarewich, Lisa
Makarewich, Nicholas Makarewich, Stephanie (Jose Miguel) Tam-Rosas,
Jacqueline (Scott) Tam, and Lauren (Christopher) Sanders; and by her
great-grandchildren: Dillon, Penelope, Connor, Ethan, Mason, Austin, and
Patrick; and by her sister, Helen Galison of Munster.
She is also
preceded in death by her sons, Stephan Makarewich and Nicholas Makarewich,
and by eleven siblings.
Emma was a founding
member of Saint Elizabeth Orthodox Church in Chesterton, where she was also
a member of the church choir. She worked as a library assistant for many
years in the Munster School System. She was also an amazing seamstress and
enjoyed making the altar coverings for church and making clothes for her
children, including their costumes for school musicals.
Funeral services
will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at 9 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth
Orthodox Church, 45 West Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, IN, with Reverend
William Bass officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Russian
Orthodox Cemetery in Gary, IN.
The family will
receive friends on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., at
White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South Second Street, Chesterton, IN.
