Thelma L. Monroe,
age 93 of Valparaiso, formerly of Moline, IL, passed away peacefully on
Saturday, September 9, 2017.
She was born April
9, 1924, in Shelbina, MO, to the late James and Katie Lee (Purdy) Timbrook.
Thelma was a member
of the Church of the Nazarene in Moline, IL, and attended Real Life
Community Church in Portage and Valparaiso Nazarene Church. She was a member
of the Red Hat Society and the Christian Women’s Luncheon. Thelma enjoyed
taking care of her family and especially looked forward to her weekly
dinners and shopping outings with her daughters. She will be remembered as a
loving mother and grandmother, who will be deeply missed.
On November 19,
1949, in Folkston, GA, Thelma married Ellsworth Monroe, who preceded her in
death in 2010.
She is survived by
their children: Barry Monroe of Chesterton, Allen (Roberta) Monroe of St.
Louis, MO, Nancy (Jeff) Nixon of Munster, Beverly Monroe of Valparaiso,
Chris Monroe of Munster; grandchildren: Jennifer Monroe, Brad Monroe, Justin
Monroe, Jason Monroe, Julie Settle, Joshua Kaminski, Seth Kaminski;
great-grandchildren: Allison, Jack, Natalie, Lindsey, and Ryan.
Thelma was preceded
in death by her siblings: Hazel Ross, Elsie Lear, and Zelma Hulett.
A funeral service
will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at Moeller
Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, Rev. John Mongerson
officiating, with burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be
Wednesday from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
