Services Monday for Donald 'Spike' McCoole

Donald “Spike” McCoole, Sr., age 79 of Chesterton, IN, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in Valparaiso, IN.

He was born April 22, 1938, in Gary, Indiana, to Horace and Cecilia (Meager) McCoole.

He is survived by his former spouse, Judith McCoole; sons, Donald “Buck” of Portage, Indiana, David (Angie) of West Virginia and Darrin (Fran) McCoole of Valparaiso, Indiana; daughters, Leanne (William) Grambo of Michigan City, Indiana, Jill (Bill) Crook of Phoenix, Arizona, and Joy Hegedus of Portage, Indiana; brother, Charles McCoole; sisters, Bonnie (Jim) Tilden, Doloris (Jim) Isbey, and Karen (Don) Pisowicz; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Conn “Ching” McCoole; sister, Kathleen “Sis” McCoole and sister-in-law, Zane McCoole.

Spike retired from Inland Steel after 33 years. He was a Civil War buff and a huge Nascar fan. He enjoyed his winters in Arizona with his daughter and grandkids and Daisy the dog.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017, at 12:00 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN, 46304, with Pastor Lorrayne Rizor officiating. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery, Portage, IN.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
